BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES 1990

GAD NATHAN

Gad Nathan is Professor of Statistics and Chairman of the Department of Statistics at Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Previous positions include Director of Research and Development at Central Bureau of Statistics, Israel, and visiting positions at various Universities and at Government Statistical Offices around the world. Dr. Nathan received his M. Sc. in Statistics at Hebrew University in 1960 and his Ph. D. in Operations Research at Case Institute of Technology in 1964.

His research interests include sampling methodology and nonsampling errors, inference from complex samples, extensions of response error models, surveys with multiplicities and cognitive aspects of survey methodology. He has participated in several research projects with groups in Australia, Canada, England, France and the United States. Dr. Nathan has some 50 publications in scientific journals, books and proceedings.

Dr. Nathan has served as Vice-President of the International Statistical Institute and is on the Council of the International Association of Survey Statisticians. He has recently been appointed as Chairman of the Israel National Public Council of Statistics.

ILDEFONSO VILLAN CRIADO

Ildefonso Villán Criado obtained a B. Sc. In Mathematics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has published several papers, including the noteworthy: «Development of an Automatic Detection and Imputation System based on the extended Methodology of Fellegi and Holt», «On the routing structure editing rules», «DIA SYSTEM: Software for the automatic imputation of qualitative data» and the «ABC METHOD». He is currently the Assistant Deputy Director of Information Technology Methodology at the National Statistics Institute (Instituto Nacional de Estadística).

MARIA SOLEDAD BRAVO CABRIA

María Soledad Bravo Cabria obtained a B. Sc. in Economics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and is an associate lecturer at the said University. She has two Masters: one in Public Administration from the KSG at Harvard and another in Quantitative Economics from the Bank of Spain. She collaborated on a scholarship with the Statistical Research Division of the Bureau of Census, and Statistics Canada. She is currently the Area Head of Information Technology Methodology at the National Statistical Institute (Instituto Nacional de Estadística).

ESTELLE BEE DAGUM

Dr. Estelle Bee Dagum is currently Director of the Time Series Research and Analysis Division of Statistics Canada and Honorary Professor of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences of the Western Ontario University.

Dr. Dagum is the author of the XllARIMA, seasonal adjustment method officially adopted by the majority of the statistical bureaus of the world and also used by Central Banks, financial institutions and universities. She has published several books and over eighty papers in scientific journals in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese.

Dr. Dagum has served as a Senior Advisor to various governments and private foreign institutions of the United States, Australia, France, Argentina, Mexico and Portugal. She was President of the International Institute of Forecasters and Guest Speaker of the Federal Reserve Board. She is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Elected Member of the International Institute of Statistics, First Recipient of the Julius Shiskin Award and Elected Member of the International Association on Research in Income and Wealth. She serves as Editor of the International Journal of Forecasting and Associate Editor of the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, the Canadian Journal of Statistics and the Journal of Survey Methodology.
